At least 12 fully funded four-year genomics PhD studentships at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, affiliated with the University of Cambridge, start 1 October 2027. Applicants worldwide may apply by 24 November 2026 at 09:00 GMT; both academic references are due 1 December at 09:00 GMT.
This cohort-based programme trains researchers across the Sanger Institute’s genomics research areas. Applicants apply to the programme, not directly to a faculty member, but name three potential Sanger supervisors and explain their research interests. Successful students later complete a separate Cambridge admission application.
