Up to five Wellcome-funded, three-year PhD fellowships for UK-home-fee health professionals. Salary, fees, research and travel support; apply by 8 November 2026.
CREATE recruits health professionals for PhD research in global health. Fellows register at one of five UK university partners and conduct at least 18 months of research with a partner institution in Ghana, Pakistan, South Africa, The Gambia, Uganda or Zimbabwe. Research may span biological, clinical or population health questions. Stage 1 applications are open through the LSHTM vacancy portal; around 15–20 candidates advance to a full proposal stage, and up to five will receive funding.

Benefits
Three years of salary, home-rate PhD tuition fees, research expenses, training and travel costs; overseas allowances may apply.
Eligibility summary
Applicants must be practising health professionals registered with a UK or Republic of Ireland regulatory body, have at least two years of post-qualification clinical experience, the right to work in the UK, and eligibility for UK/home tuition fees. Nurses, midwives and allied health professionals need a relevant master’s degree. Medical graduates must meet the stated training or GP requirements.
Requirements
Submit a Stage 1 online application through the LSHTM vacancy page, quoting ITD-CRD-2026-24. The proposed research must address health issues in the partner country/region and fit Wellcome Discovery Research.

Complete the Stage 1 online questions and Equal Opportunities form as instructed on the LSHTM vacancy. Do not upload a CV at Stage 1.
