WEHI and the University of Melbourne invite expressions of interest for PhD projects focused on dry-lab, computational, and quantitative approaches to infectious disease epidemiology and Plasmodium vivax malaria.

Available projects

  • Estimating the impact of Plasmodium vivax Serological Testing and Treatment (PvSeroTAT) in programmatic implementation and scale-up studies.
  • Developing targeted sero-diagnostic algorithms across epidemiological settings and high-risk groups.
  • Computational analysis of scenarios in Plasmodium vivax serological testing and treatment (PvSeroTAT implementation).
  • Mathematical modelling of Plasmodium vivax sero-diagnostics.

Supervision and research environment

Primary supervisors are Professor Ivo Mueller, Associate Professor Nic Geard, or Professor Jennifer Flegg. Students will work with the Vivax Serology Partnership (VISPA), an international consortium developing and implementing serological test-and-treat approaches for vivax malaria elimination.

Eligibility

Applicants should have a strong background in mathematics or statistics, computer science, epidemiology, or biology and be willing to develop expertise in a complementary discipline. The call is open to domestic Australian and international applicants.
