UKZN D’RAP Global Environmental Change Research Assistants – 3 Posts
University of KwaZulu-Natal
UKZN and eThekwini Municipality seek three Global Environmental Change research assistants for November 2026–January 2027. Master’s level: R10,727/month; PhD level: R12,872/month. Apply jointly with a supervisor by 25 October.
The Durban Research Action Partnership (D’RAP), a University of KwaZulu-Natal and eThekwini Municipality collaboration, is funding one PhD-level and two master’s-level research assistant appointments for three months, from November 2026 through January 2027. The work must support the Global Environmental Change programme, preferably the current phase of Durban’s climate change strategy. Possible outputs include research papers, policy translations and pilot projects relevant to eThekwini.
The official advert states UKZN remuneration rates of R10,727 per month for master’s-level assistants and R12,872 per month for the PhD-level assistant. Students must disclose other UKZN appointments; work hours cannot exceed the university’s rules. Preference is given to applicants without a bursary or scholarship supporting their studies, and the programme targets students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
A student and supervising academic collaborator must apply together. The supervisor must motivate the proposed work and support the student. Email Ms Preshnee Singh at SinghP7@ukzn.ac.za with the student CV, declaration of other UKZN appointments and bursary support, and the completed template signed by both student and supervisor. Use advert reference SAScBS 35/2026 in the email subject. Student-only and incomplete applications will be rejected. Deadline: 25 October 2026. Download the official advert and template from the linked UKZN notice.
