University of Cape Town Postgraduate Financial Aid Bursary 2027
University of Cape Town
UCT’s 2027 need-based postgraduate bursary is open to South African citizens and permanent residents seeking full-time Honours, Master’s or Doctoral study. Applicants need an academic place and must meet financial-need criteria. Apply by 10 November 2026 through the UCT PeopleSoft Student Portal.
The University of Cape Town is accepting applications for its 2027 Postgraduate Financial Aid Bursary. This need-based award supports eligible South African citizens and permanent residents intending full-time Honours, Master’s or Doctoral study at UCT. Merit-only applications are not accepted for 2027.
The official criteria require an application for a UCT academic place, at least 70% in the previous qualification, and financial need. UCT defines the financial aid band as gross annual family income below R350,000 and its GAP tuition band as R350,001–R600,000. Working more than 20 hours a week during the year of study makes an applicant ineligible. Some professional and full-coursework degrees are also excluded. Read the two-page official criteria document for the complete conditions.
The value is not fixed: UCT describes awards as contributions toward study costs, ranging from smaller supplementary amounts to larger awards. First-year applicants must submit a 2027 UCT admissions application before applying for funding. Complete the PG Online Funding Application in the PeopleSoft Student Portal and provide the supporting documents required for the financial-need assessment. The funding deadline is 10 November 2026.
