Midlands+ Mental Health and Neurosciences Funded Clinical PhDs 2027
Midlands+ Mental Health and Neurosciences PhD Programme
The Wellcome-funded Midlands+ programme offers up to five fully funded mental health and neuroscience PhDs starting October 2027 for practising healthcare professionals with UK Home fee status. The mandatory expression of interest closes 30 November 2026 at noon GMT.
Midlands+ Mental Health and Neurosciences PhD Programme is led by the University of Nottingham with Birmingham, Leicester, Oxford and Warwick. Up to five funded PhD places are available for October 2027. Applicants can choose an advertised supervisor-led project or develop a self-proposed mental or brain health project. A mandatory expression of interest establishes eligibility and route choice; eligible applicants then receive the full application from 1 December 2026. The programme says funding covers salary support for protected research time, Home tuition fees, research expenses and training costs. It is intended for healthcare professionals pursuing clinical-academic careers, and is not open to applicants assessed as international-fee students.
