Assistant Professor Abdullah Al Redwan Newaz is recruiting one fully funded Ph.D. student to join the Autonomous Intelligent Robotics (AiR) Lab at LSU New Orleans beginning in Spring 2027.

The lab develops autonomous systems that can make safe and effective decisions when information is incomplete and resources are limited. This position will focus on robotic information gathering, uncertainty-aware planning and multi-robot coordination, with uncrewed aerial vehicles and autonomous surface vehicles deployed for environmental monitoring in Louisiana's coastal waterways.

Suitable candidates should be excited about connecting uncertainty quantification and decision-making theory with real field robots, real environmental data and changing weather conditions.

Formal degree: the Department of Computer Science is a leading participant in LSU New Orleans' interdisciplinary Engineering and Applied Science Ph.D. programme. Candidates who pass the lab's initial review must also complete the official university graduate application for that doctoral route.

How to apply: email the requested documents to aredwann@lsuneworleans.edu using the subject line [AiRLab-PhD-S27]. The announcement does not state a separate lab closing date, so applicants should apply as early as possible and still meet the formal university deadline that applies to their circumstances.

Funding clarification: the recruitment announcement directly calls the position fully funded but does not itemise the stipend, tuition remission, non-resident fee waiver, health insurance, mandatory fees, summer support, appointment workload or renewal duration. LSU New Orleans states generally that graduate assistants receive a stipend and non-resident fee waiver and may receive tuition remission depending on workload, duties and funding source.
