Lancaster University’s NEON Lab is recruiting a PhD researcher for the 2027 NorthWest Biosciences doctoral training programme. The project, “Sleep neurophysiology as a predictor of listening effort and memory consolidation in healthy ageing,” is supervised by Dr Sana Hannan and Dr Helen Nuttall at Lancaster with Professor Edwin Robertson at Glasgow. It uses high-density EEG and sleep recordings to study how ageing-related sleep changes affect speech understanding and memory. Successful home and international applicants receive tuition, a stipend and laboratory expenses. The programme lists a GBP 21,805 stipend on its current funding page; applicants should confirm the applicable 2027 rate. Visa and immigration health surcharge costs are not covered. International applications are open 1 October–30 November 2026. Home applications open 2 November 2026 and close 4 January 2027.
