ICR funded PhD in liver metastasis immunology — Dr David Kung-Chun Chiu (2027)
The Institute of Cancer Research
Dr David Kung-Chun Chiu’s ICR lab seeks a 2027 PhD researcher to study how cancer cells reprogramme liver macrophages and suppress immunity during metastasis. The ICR-funded, four-year studentship at Sutton covers tuition, research costs and a tax-free stipend and is open to all nationalities. Deadline: 16 November 2026.
This project investigates how tumour-intrinsic signalling changes Kupffer cells, the liver’s resident macrophages, to create an immune-permissive environment for pancreatic and colorectal cancer metastasis. The student will use preclinical models, single-cell and spatial profiling, imaging and patient samples to identify mechanisms and possible therapeutic targets. Primary supervisor: Dr David Kung-Chun Chiu, ICR Sutton.
