University of Glasgow SGSSS ESRC Student-Led PhD Studentships 2026/27
University of Glasgow
ESRC/SGSSS student-led social science PhD funding at Glasgow. Covers a UKRI-rate stipend, Home-rate tuition and research support; international awardees must pay the Home–international fee gap. Secure an eligible Glasgow supervisor first. Apply by 24 November 2026, 5 pm UK time.
The University of Glasgow is accepting applications through the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS) 2026/27 Student-led Open Competition. Propose a social science research project with a Glasgow supervisor aligned to an eligible Unit of Assessment. Contact the relevant postgraduate research lead and potential supervisor before applying; supervisor engagement is required and the supervisor completes part of the application. A typical award supports 3.5 years of PhD study, or one Master’s year followed by 3.5 years of PhD study, subject to a development needs assessment. Apply to SGSSS first and await the result before applying for the Glasgow PhD. Applicants may apply through only one eligible SGSSS institution. Award confirmation is subject to ESRC’s mid-term review.
